Sima Skurkovich
A survivor of the Vilna ghetto, she was liberated from the Bergen-Belsen camp in Germany at age 21. After the liberation, she returned to Lithuania and in 1946 moved to Poland after marrying and being heavily pregnant. Pursuant to the awakening of antisemitism in Poland, attacks on groups of Jews in Łódź, and the pogrom in Kielce, the couple decided to escape from Poland by means of the Bricha organization.
